Description
The INFICON Vortex Dual (INF-714-202-G31) is a 230V A2L-certified refrigerant recovery machine built for Australian HVAC-R technicians who need the fastest real-world recovery speeds in a portable, field-hardened unit. It handles CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, and semi-flammable A2L refrigerants including R32, R410A, R22, R134a, R404A, and R407C — covering the full range of systems in the current AU installed base and the R32-dominant split systems coming through now.
Best For
- HVAC-R technicians servicing R32, R410A, and legacy refrigerant systems.
- Techs working in hot ambient conditions who need sustained recovery speed, not just rated speed.
- Service vans carrying a single machine across residential, light commercial, and refrigeration work.
- Any job involving A2L semi-flammable refrigerants where certification matters.
Why the Vortex Dual Recovers Faster in Hot Conditions
Most recovery machines slow down as ambient temperature rises because discharge pressure climbs and the compressor labours. The Vortex Dual addresses this directly with a micro-channel condenser — the same heat exchange technology used in high-efficiency systems — combined with an oversize fan. The result is lower discharge pressure sustained throughout the entire recovery cycle, not just at the start. On a 40°C rooftop in summer, that sustained speed is the difference. The 1 HP oil-less dual-piston compressor drives the recovery rate; the condenser and fan design are what maintain it.

- Noise-absorbing blow-moulded carry case — quieter in residential and enclosed plant room settings.
- Filter/dryer included in box — inlet protection from the first job.
- 3-year over-the-counter replacement warranty — the longest in the recovery machine category.
What's in the Box
- 1× INFICON Vortex Dual Recovery Machine (INF-714-202-G31, 230V)
- 1× Filter/dryer
- 1× Shoulder strap
- 1× 1.8 m detachable power cord
Using It on the Job
- Confirm the recovery cylinder is in test date, on a calibrated scale, and no more than 80% full by weight before connecting.
- Connect the machine between the system service ports and the recovery cylinder using correctly rated hoses — short, large-bore hoses reduce restriction and improve actual recovery speed.
- For A2L refrigerants (including R32): ensure the work area is ventilated, remove ignition sources, and confirm all equipment in the recovery path is A2L rated.
- Open valves and briefly run the machine to purge air from hose lines before closing the purge valve.
- Power on and monitor the scale and pressure gauges throughout the recovery cycle.
- Allow the machine to run until shutdown pressure is reached or a vacuum is pulled on the system.
- Run the self-purge cycle to clear residual refrigerant from internal circuits before disconnecting hoses.
- Close all valves, power off the machine, and confirm the cylinder weight is within safe limits before transport.
Limitations & Safety Notes
- The INF-714-202-G31 is a 230V AU/NZ unit — do not attempt to run on 115V without a step-up transformer.
- For A2L refrigerant recovery, always ensure adequate ventilation and remove ignition sources from the work area.
- Never overfill recovery cylinders — 80% maximum fill by weight; always use a calibrated scale.
- Only use recovery cylinders that are in test date and rated for the refrigerant being recovered.
- Refrigerant handling requires a current ARCtick licence. This product is for use by licensed technicians.
- Refer to the INFICON Vortex Dual operating manual for full installation, operation, and service procedures.
Tradie Pro Tip
Recovery speed on the job is rarely limited by the machine — it's limited by hose length, hose diameter, cylinder backpressure, and ambient temperature. Short, large-bore hoses and a cool cylinder make a bigger difference than most techs expect. Keep the Vortex Dual in the shade when ambient temperatures are high and you'll see it hold its rated speed through the whole recovery cycle.
Pair With
Recovery speed is limited by the weakest link in the setup. Pair the Vortex Dual with a calibrated refrigerant recovery scale to prevent cylinder overfill, rated recovery hoses to minimise restriction, and a vacuum pump for post-recovery evacuation. Browse the full range at Recovery Units.
