Description
Uni-T UT39C Digital Multimeter — a reliable, manual-ranging meter for HVAC and refrigeration techs who need AC/DC volts and amps, resistance, temperature and frequency in one tough unit. It’s a bloody good everyday meter for installs, diagnostics and apprentice kits — too easy.
Key Features & Trade Benefits
- CAT I 1000V / CAT II 600V — suitable for general appliance and low-energy circuits; know your category before cracking open a board.
- AC/DC volts to 750V/1000V — covers common mains and control checks on split systems and light commercial gear.
- AC/DC current to 20A — quick compressor/fan draw checks when a clamp’s not handy (observe time limits).
- K-type temperature (−40~1000 °C) — verify discharge air, line temps and defrost — fewer call-backs.
- Frequency, capacitance, diode & continuity — one meter for most service tasks; data hold and auto power-off save time and batteries.
- 1999-count LCD + holster — clear readout with basic drop protection for jobsite knocks.
Why This Product Matters
On a steamy Gold Coast rooftop, a tech swapped to the UT39C to chase a no-cool fault. Quick voltage, continuity and temp checks later, the culprit was a bad cap — job done and the café reopened before lunch. For more meters, see our Multimeters category. Fair dinkum handy.
Pro Tip
Before measuring current, double-check your lead placement and range, and stick to the meter’s time limits on the 20A jack. For mains switchboards or 3-phase distribution, step up to a CAT III/IV meter like the UT17B PRO — she’ll be right.
Compatibility & System Info
- Measurement ranges: DC V 200 mV–1000 V; AC V 2–750 V; DC/AC A 2 mA–20 A; Ω to 20 MΩ; °C −40~1000; Hz 2–20 kHz.
- Safety: CAT I 1000 V / CAT II 600 V (not for CAT III switchboards). Always follow Australian electrical safety guidance.
- Typical jobs: Sydney split installs, Brisbane refrigeration service, controls testing and training vans — no worries.

FAQs
Is the UT39C auto-ranging?
No — it’s a manual-ranging meter (ideal for teaching apprentices correct range selection).
Does it measure temperature?
Yes. It includes a K-type probe and measures approximately −40 to 1000 °C. For pipe temps, a clamp K-type like the TC24 is a ripper add-on. See pipe clamp.
Is it safe for switchboards?
It’s rated CAT I 1000 V / CAT II 600 V. For CAT III/IV switchboards and distribution, use a higher-category DMM such as the UT17B PRO.
