What's in the Box
- 1 set of Testo standard measuring cables (black and red) with angled plugs. Each cable is 1.225 metres long and features a 2 mm diameter, 18 mm long tip.
Using It on the Job
- Inspect Leads: Before every use, visually check the insulation for any cuts, cracks, or damage. Damaged leads are a shock hazard and should be replaced immediately.
- Connect to Meter: Firmly insert the angled plugs into your multimeter or clamp meter's appropriate input jacks (e.g., VΩmA and COM).
- Select Measurement Function: Set your meter to the correct range and function for the parameter you're testing (e.g., VAC, VDC, Ohms).
- Isolate Power (if required): For safety, always isolate power and perform lockout/tagout procedures before working on live electrical components, unless specific live-testing procedures are required and followed with appropriate PPE.
- Test Circuit: Touch the probe tips to the test points. The rubberised grips help maintain a steady connection.
- Clean and Store: After use, wipe down the cables with a clean, dry cloth to remove dirt or grime, and store them neatly to prevent kinks or damage.
Limitations & Safety Notes
- These cables are rated CAT II 1000 V. Ensure your application does not exceed this overvoltage category or voltage limit.
- Always connect the common (black) lead first and disconnect it last when working on live circuits.
- Do not use if the cables, plugs, or tips show any signs of wear, fraying, or exposed wiring.
- Follow all relevant Australian electrical safety standards and Safe Work Australia guidance when performing electrical measurements.
- Not suitable for CAT III or CAT IV environments unless used with accessories rated for those categories.
"Keeping your test leads organised and untangled is more than just neatness – it prevents internal wire breaks and extends their life. Always coil them properly after each use, don't just shove them in the bottom of the toolbox."
Pair with a Testo digital multimeter or clamp meter for a complete electrical diagnostic kit. Consider adding Testo crocodile clips for hands-free measurement on certain terminals.
