Using It on the Job
- For optical measurement, ensure the target area is clean. Apply a self-adhesive reflective marker to the rotating object.
- Power on the Testo 470 and select optical mode. Aim the visible red beam at the reflective marker from a distance of up to 600 mm, ensuring a clear line of sight.
- For mechanical measurement, attach the adapter and either the probe tip (for rpm) or the appropriate measuring wheel (for linear speed/length).
- Carefully apply the probe tip or measuring wheel to the centre of the rotating shaft or the surface of the moving belt, maintaining stable, firm contact.
- Read the measurement on the LCD display. Use the 'Min/Max/Mean' functions to capture a range of readings for diagnostics.
- After use, power down the unit, clean any dust or debris, and store the tachometer and all accessories neatly in its transport case to protect it from job site wear.
