Why is a crossbow bender better than a standard lever bender?
Standard lever benders require two hands and a lot of upper-body leverage to pull the pipe around the die, which can be nearly impossible in tight spaces. A crossbow bender uses a ratcheting trigger mechanism. You simply squeeze the handle repeatedly with one hand, and the tool does all the heavy lifting for you, ensuring a perfect, effortless curve every time.
Can I bend hard-drawn copper with this kit?
No. Like all manual tube benders, attempting to bend hard-drawn copper directly will result in the pipe snapping or flattening. If you need to bend hard-drawn pipe, you must first anneal (heat) the specific section of the pipe to a dull cherry red with an oxy-torch and let it cool to soften the metal before using the bender.
What are the reversing arms used for?
Standard operation pulls the ends of the pipe toward the handle of the tool. However, if you are pressed up against a wall or working inside a condensing unit, you might not have room for the pipe to fold backward. The reversing arms flip the bending direction, pushing the bend away from the tool, giving you unmatched versatility in tight quarters.
