Description

This Brivis Gas Heater Thermocouple is a crucial replacement part for keeping ducted gas heaters running safely and efficiently, helping HVAC techs and gas fitters get the job done right.

When you're out on a call and the pilot light keeps dropping out, a thermocouple is usually the first thing you check. This 24-inch model is designed for straightforward swaps, even in tight roof spaces or cramped service areas.

Best For

  • HVAC Service Technicians
  • Licensed Gas Fitters
  • Residential Heating Maintenance
  • Apprentices learning gas appliance service

Compatibility

This thermocouple is designed for Brivis ducted gas heaters and is a direct replacement for Brivis part numbers B009065 and 80009065. It also cross-references with Honeywell part numbers Q309A4040, Q309A2135, and Q309A1970.

If you're running a different model, check fittings and specs before ordering.

Features

  • Length: Generous 24-inch (approx 610mm) length for flexible routing and easier connections.
  • Dual Fitment: Designed to support both clip-in and screw-in style pilot assemblies for versatile repairs.
  • Direct Replacement: Matches original Brivis and common Honeywell specifications for seamless integration.
  • New Style: Improved design for reliable operation and easier changeovers.

What's in the Box

  • 1x Brivis Gas Heater Thermocouple 24 inch Clip and Nut (New Style)

Using It on the Job

  1. Isolate Safely: Before starting any work, ensure the gas supply to the appliance is shut off and the power is disconnected at the main switchboard. Tag out if required.
  2. Access & Cool Down: Gain access to the pilot assembly. Allow the heater to cool completely to avoid burns.
  3. Disconnect Old Thermocouple: Carefully unclip or unscrew the old thermocouple from the pilot assembly and the gas valve. Note its routing.
  4. Install New Thermocouple: Route the new 24-inch thermocouple correctly, securing it to the pilot assembly. Ensure the tip sits firmly in the path of the pilot flame.
  5. Connect to Valve: Securely attach the other end of the thermocouple to the gas valve. Do not overtighten, but ensure a snug fit.
  6. Test & Leak Check: Restore gas and power. Light the pilot and check for stable flame contact with the thermocouple. Conduct a thorough gas leak check at all disturbed connections using an approved leak detection solution.

Limitations & Safety Notes

  • Installation and service of gas appliances must only be performed by a currently licensed gas fitter in accordance with Australian standards and local regulations.
  • Always perform a gas leak test after any work on gas lines or components.
  • This thermocouple is designed for the compatible Brivis models listed; confirm fitment for other brands or models.
  • Do not bend the thermocouple tubing sharply, as this can damage the internal wiring and affect its reliability.

Tradie Pro Tip

When replacing any thermocouple, always ensure the tip is sitting firmly and fully immersed in the pilot flame. A weak or intermittent flame contact is the quickest way for a new thermocouple to fail prematurely and cause nuisance lockouts on your gas heater.

Pair With

For a complete gas heating service, pair this thermocouple with new Brivis Ignitors & Sensors or a suitable Brivis Gas Valve, available in our residential gas spares range.
