Description
This Braemar solenoid valve is a straight-up replacement part for 12V water control systems, commonly found in evaporative coolers. It's built to manage water flow reliably, which is crucial for keeping those units running efficiently, especially during a hot Aussie summer. Having swapped out enough of these over the years, I know a reliable valve saves a return trip.
It’s a direct fit for several popular models, ensuring you get the water flow sorted without fuss.
Best For
- Evaporative cooler service and maintenance teams.
- Competent DIY owners replacing faulty solenoid valves.
- Trade apprentices learning water circuit components.
Compatibility
This 12V solenoid valve with 3/4" BSP male threads is designed as a direct replacement for many Braemar and Seeley evaporative coolers. Its 90-degree design ensures a good fit in tight spaces typical of these units. If you're running a different model, check fittings and specs before ordering.
Features
- Standard 3/4" BSP Male Threads: Ensures a common connection for inlet and outlet.
- 12V Operation: Matches the low-voltage control circuits found in many evaporative coolers.
- Wide Operating Pressure Range: Handles water pressures from 20Kpa up to 1250Kpa, suitable for most residential and light commercial setups.
- 90-Degree Design: Allows for flexible installation in constrained equipment compartments.
- Direct Replacement: Matches Braemar and Seeley OEM part number 865607.

What's in the Box
- 1 x Braemar Solenoid Valve 3/4" M&M 12V 90DEG (SY-SOLENOID/12V)
Using It on the Job
- Safety First: Before starting any work, ensure the power supply to the evaporative cooler is isolated and locked out. Shut off the main water supply to the unit.
- Drain & Disconnect: Drain any residual water from the unit. Carefully disconnect the wiring and unscrew the old solenoid valve from the water lines.
- Prepare & Install: Apply quality PTFE thread sealant tape to the male BSP threads of the new solenoid valve. Screw the new valve into place, ensuring it's tightened securely but not overtightened to prevent stripping threads.
- Wire Up: Reconnect the 12V electrical connections, ensuring polarity is correct if applicable, and all terminals are secure.
- Test: Slowly restore the water supply and check for any leaks around the connections. Once no leaks are detected, restore power and test the cooler's water circuit operation.
Limitations & Safety Notes
- Electrical work should always be performed by a licensed professional to meet Australian safety standards.
- Ensure the operating water pressure in your system falls within the 20Kpa to 1250Kpa range.
- This valve is designed for water applications; do not use it with corrosive chemicals or refrigerants.
- Always double-check your existing valve's thread size and voltage before ordering to confirm compatibility.
Tradie Pro Tip: Always use a good quality thread sealant like PTFE tape on those BSP connections. It'll prevent weep leaks that can cause rust or damage to surrounding components in the long run.
Pair With
Pair with other evaporative cooler parts, quality PTFE thread sealant, and a multimeter for electrical checks to keep your systems running smoothly.
