Using It on the Job
- Isolate Power & Gas: Before starting any work, ensure the heater's electrical supply is turned off at the main switchboard and the gas supply is shut off at the isolation valve. Verify with a multimeter for electrical safety.
- Access & Disconnect: Remove necessary panels to access the existing spark ignitor and flame sensor assembly. Carefully disconnect the wiring and gas line (if integrated) and unmount the old components.
- Install New Components: Mount the new Electrode Flame Sense Long and Electrode Dual Probe Long using the provided brackets and screws. Ensure correct orientation and secure fitting to prevent vibration issues.
- Reconnect & Verify: Reconnect all electrical leads according to the wiring diagram in the included leaflets. Double-check all connections for tightness and proper routing.
- Leak Test & Commission: Restore gas and electrical supply. Perform a gas leak test around any disturbed gas connections if applicable. Initiate the heater and observe several ignition cycles to ensure consistent spark and stable flame sensing.
- Check Flueing: After reassembly, verify that all flueing components are secure and free of obstructions, and that combustion air intake is clear.
Limitations & Safety Notes
- This kit is specifically designed for the listed Braemar condensing heater models only. It is not suitable for non-condensing or other brand units.
- Work on gas appliances requires appropriate licensing and certification in Australia. Only licensed gas fitters and HVAC technicians should undertake installation and repair of gas heating systems.
- Always follow manufacturer's installation instructions and relevant Australian Standards (e.g., AS/NZS 5601.1 Gas Installations) and Safe Work guidance.
- Ensure proper electrical isolation and lockout procedures are followed before commencing any work to prevent accidental energisation.
When installing these, always take photos of the old setup before you pull it apart. Even with the leaflets, a visual reference of the wiring and bracket orientation can save you a headache and prevent incorrect reassembly, especially on a cold rooftop install.
Pair With
Pair this retro kit with a reliable digital manometer for accurate gas pressure checks and suitable HVAC Shop universal gas valves for comprehensive gas heating system maintenance.
