This Testo clamp meter adapter plugs into your digital multimeter, letting you take non-contact current measurements up to 400A AC/DC. It's built for HVAC techs and electricians who need to safely check current draw without breaking the circuit, especially when you're battling with tight wiring in a switchboard on a scorching Australian summer day.

The clever design, featuring a fully retractable pincer arm, makes it simple to hook onto cables in cramped locations where a standard clamp meter might struggle. It’s a genuine time-saver when you're trying to diagnose an electrical fault or confirm load without pulling things apart.

Best For

  • HVAC service and installation technicians
  • Electricians and electrical apprentices
  • Industrial maintenance teams
  • Anyone needing safe, non-contact current measurement in tight spots

Compatibility

This clamp meter adapter is designed to pair directly with Testo 760-2 and 760-3 digital multimeters. It's also compatible with other brands of digital multimeters that feature a resolution in the millivolt (mV) range and suitable measuring jack inputs. If you're running a different model, check fittings and specs before ordering.

Features

  • Non-Contact Measurement: Safely measure current without direct electrical contact, reducing risk and simplifying troubleshooting.
  • Retractable Pincer Arm: Fully retracting jaw makes it easy to clamp onto tightly packed power cables, even in cramped switchgear.
  • Wide Current Range: Handles direct and alternating current measurements up to 400 A AC/DC.
  • Clear Display Conversion: Provides a clear output of 1 mV per A on your connected multimeter, making readings straightforward.
  • High Safety Rating: Rated for Overvoltage Category CAT IV 600 V, offering robust protection for electrical work.

Using It on the Job

  1. Safety First: Always ensure power is isolated and locked out if working on internal components. For live measurements, confirm your multimeter is rated for the voltage and category, and wear appropriate PPE.
  2. Connect to Multimeter: Plug the adapter's measuring jacks into the correct inputs on your digital multimeter, typically the voltage (V) and common (COM) ports, ensuring it's set to read mV.
  3. Isolate a Single Conductor: The adapter measures current through a single conductor. Carefully identify and clamp around only one live wire, not an entire cable bundle, to get an accurate reading.
  4. Take Your Reading: Observe the mV reading on your multimeter. Since the adapter outputs 1 mV per A, a reading of 150 mV means 150 Amps.
  5. Disconnect Safely: Once measurements are complete, remove the clamp from the conductor and disconnect the adapter from your multimeter. Store the adapter carefully to prevent damage.

Limitations & Safety Notes

  • Always adhere to local electrical safety regulations and Australian standards when working with live electrical circuits.
  • Ensure your connected digital multimeter is rated for the same or higher Overvoltage Category (CAT IV 600V) as this adapter for safe operation.
  • This adapter is for non-contact current measurement only; do not attempt to measure voltage or resistance directly through the clamp.
  • Only clamp around a single conductor at a time for accurate current readings.
When you're crammed into a tight roof space or trying to get a reading in a busy switchboard, that retractable pincer arm is a ripper. It lets you get the jaw around the cable when other clamp meters just won't fit, saving you from having to strip down panels.
