This Testo 750-3 digital voltage tester is built for tradies needing quick, reliable electrical checks on site, from split systems to commercial panels. It helps confirm circuits are dead before you touch them, or verifies correct voltage and phase.

When you're up a ladder on a scorching Australian roof, you need a tool that's easy to read and tough enough to handle daily knocks. This unit delivers clear feedback and has a built-in light for those dark corners.

Best For

  • HVAC electricians and refrigeration mechanics
  • Building maintenance teams
  • Apprentices learning electrical diagnostics
  • Competent DIY owners checking power supply

Compatibility

The Testo 750-3 is designed for general electrical testing in AC and DC circuits up to 690 V. It's suited for verifying de-energisation on a wide range of residential and commercial electrical systems. The GFCI test function is specifically for testing Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (RCDs) in AC outlets.

If you're running a different model or need specific features beyond voltage, continuity, and phase checks, review the technical specs before ordering.

Features

  • GFCI Test Function: Applies a 35 mA load to test RCDs, with a vibrating alert for active testing.
  • Digital LCD Display: Shows actual AC/DC voltage measurements up to 690 V for precise readings.
  • All-Around LED Voltage Bar: Patented design for clear, visible voltage indication from any angle, even in low light.
  • Built-in Flashlight: Illuminates the test point, handy for working in dark switchboards or plant rooms.
  • Low Input Impedance: Helps prevent ghost voltages from false readings.
  • CAT IV 600V / CAT III 690V Safety Rated: Meets high standards for working in distribution boards and main electrical installations.

Using It on the Job

  1. Always perform a self-check on a known live source before and after use to ensure the tester is functioning correctly.
  2. For voltage testing, connect the probes across the circuit or from phase to earth. Read the voltage directly on the LCD and observe the LED bar.
  3. To test for continuity, ensure the circuit is de-energised and apply probes. The tester will indicate continuity with an audible tone or visual cue.
  4. For phase sequence, touch the probes to the three phases. The tester will indicate the correct phase rotation for motor hook-ups.
  5. To perform a GFCI (RCD) test, connect the probes to the active and neutral terminals of the outlet, then activate the test function. Confirm the RCD trips.
  6. Use the built-in flashlight to illuminate dimly lit work areas like behind compressors or inside electrical panels.

Limitations & Safety Notes

  • Always observe lockout/tagout procedures before commencing work on de-energised circuits.
  • Do not exceed the maximum rated voltage of 690 V AC/DC.
  • Regularly inspect the test leads and housing for any damage before use.
  • This tool is not for measuring current; use a clamp meter for current measurements.
  • Always follow Australian wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000) and Safe Work Australia guidelines when performing electrical tasks.

Tradie Pro Tip

Before you even think about touching a wire, always use your voltage tester on a known live circuit first, then on the circuit you're about to work on, and then on the known live circuit again. That 'three-point check' ensures your tester is working right and the circuit is genuinely dead.

Pair With

This Testo voltage tester is an essential part of any electrician's kit. Consider pairing it with a quality clamp meter for current measurements and a non-contact voltage detector for quick initial checks from the HVAC Shop range.
