The Fieldpiece VC1 Valve Core Removal Tool (VCRT) is an ultra-compact solution for tight service spaces. Its capture rod reliably engages the valve core the first time—no more fishing around or losing cores during service. Swap the standard 1/4" service-port fitting to an optional 5/16" fitting for mini-splits, keep the captured core secure with the magnetic cap, and pull confident deep vacuums thanks to a 20-micron rating. Built for today’s refrigerants, the VC1 is A2L compatible.

Advantages of valve core removal with VC1

1. Positive capture—engages the valve core quickly and securely for faster workflows

2. Flexible porting—swap 1/4" to optional 5/16" fitting for mini-splits

3. Cleaner service—magnetic cap holds the core on hand while you evacuate or charge

4. Deep vacuum confidence—vacuum-rated to 20 microns for reliable evacuation

5. Future-ready—compatible with A2L refrigerants when used per safety practices

Fieldpiece VC1 VCRT — FAQs

Yes. Fieldpiece offers service parts (e.g., seals/gaskets, O-rings, capture-rod gasket) so you can refresh a worn VC1 instead of replacing the whole tool. Contact us with your serial/model to source the correct kit.

Yes. The VC1 is vacuum-rated to 20 microns (≈0.027 mbar / 0.020 Torr), making it suitable for deep-vacuum service work.

  • 1/4″ (SAE flare) — the VC1’s standard female service-port fitting, used on most systems and tools
  • 5/16″ (SAE flare) — optional female fitting commonly used on many mini-splits (R410A/R32)

Threads are different and won’t cross-mate. If the 1/4″ fitting won’t start cleanly on the service port, you likely need the 5/16″ adapter/fitting.

No. The VC1 ships with a 1/4″ female service-port fitting as standard. The 5/16″ female fitting is an optional accessory for mini-splits.

Tighten until the flare gasket seats and there is no movement or leakage — do not over-torque. Hand-tight plus a small additional turn with a wrench is typical. Always follow the VC1 instruction manual and check for leaks after installation.

  • Back the capture rod out so the tip isn’t compressed
  • Fit the magnetic cap to keep the captured core secure and protect threads
  • Keep the tool clean and dry; wipe off oil/debris after use
  • Store with dust caps on all ports; keep away from loose ferrous debris that the magnet could attract

The VC1 is compatible with common HVAC/R refrigerants, including A2L-class blends (e.g., R32, R454B) when used per industry safety practices. Do not use with oxygen or unknown gases.

Connect the MG44 to the VC1’s 1/4″ male side port (with removable valve core). This gives you an accurate, isolated system vacuum reading while the service hose and valve core are managed by the VCRT.

Usually not. Check these setup points first:

  • Fully extend the capture rod, align straight to the core, and engage gently until you feel positive capture
  • Inspect/replace the capture-rod gasket or tip if worn
  • Ensure the service-port threads and valve core are not damaged or contaminated
  • Use the magnetic cap to keep the core secure during service

If issues persist after following the manual, contact us with photos/video for support.

The VC1 is covered by Fieldpiece’s limited manufacturer warranty (typically 12 months). Keep your proof of purchase. Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship; consumables (seals, gaskets) are considered wear items. For AU claims, lodge through your retailer with your invoice/serial.
